Wilted Lettuce

 

2 heads lettuce

8 slices bacon

1/4 cup vinegar

2 tbsp. sugar

2 tbsp. water

salt and pepper to taste

Fry bacon until crisp. Remove from pan and drain and chop. Into bacon fat, pour the vinegar. Add sugar and water and bring to a boil. Pour while hot over lettuce, torn into bite-size pieces. Garnish with chopped bacon.
