Soup of the Holy Spirit (Sopa do Espirito Santo)

 

6 qts. water

small head of cabbage

4 or 5 lb. chuck roast

4 T. Portuguese Seasoning

1/2 lb. Portuguese sausage

6 stalks fresh mint

Combine all the ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil. Simmer 4-5 hours. adding water as needed so that water level is the same as when you started. In a large serving bowl, break crusty bread so that all pieces have crusts. Add six stalks of fresh mint. Pour hot soup over this and serve. Makes 6 servings.
