GOLDEN CAKE BREAD
1 pkg. yeast
2 beaten eggs (reserve 1 tbsp for glaze)
1/4 cup warm water
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup hot scalded milk
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
5 cups sifted flour
Soften yeast in water. Combine milk, butter and sugar in large bowl; cool to lukewarm. Stir in eggs, vanilla, salt, and the yeast. Gradually add flour beating well after each addition. Cover and let rise in warm place until light and doubled in size, about 1 hour. Beat down and let rise again until doubled in size, about 3/4 hour. Turn dough into 2 well greased loaf pans or make into buns. Let rise in warm place until light (about 3/4 hour). Brush top with reserved egg. Bake in moderate oven 350 degrees 25 to 30 minutes.
