Easy Sushi Rice

 

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. monosodium glutamate

2 tbsp. sake **

1/2 cup rice vinegar

1-1/2 cups water

2 cups rice

Combine sugar, salt, monosodium glutamate, sake, vinegar, and water in a saucepan. Stir to dissolve sugar and salt. Rinse and drain rice; add to liquid in sauce pan. Cover and bring to a boil on high heat; continue cooking on low heat until rice is tender, about 20 minutes. Turn off heat and steam 5 minutes more. Makes 6 cups.
